CD4D2 Seems a Good Opportunity to Reach Our Aims

Interview with Gohdar Mohammad Ali, Head of Population and Labor Force Statistics (KRSO), Iraq

You are here: Home / Host Institutions / CD4D2 Seems a Good Opportunity to Reach Our Aims

12 April, 2021

Beneficiary Institution: Kurdistan Region Statistics Office (KRSO), Erbil, Iraq
Gohdar Mohammad Ali, Head of Population and Labor Force Statistics

“KRSO aims for further capacity building and an improvement in several statistical areas, such as Statistical Fields, Databases, Geographic Information Service (GIS) and other relevant programs, so we can gather and analyze data more professionally. The CD4D2 programme seems a very good opportunity to reach these aims.

KRSO is a young organization and the sole institute specialized in statistics in the Kurdistan Region. Therefore, our focus is on statistical topics.”

This is the first time we are participating in the CD4D2 programme. We had only one session with the diaspora expert and he taught us how to introduce a dynamic statistical website and how to use databases on such websites.

Due to the global health situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, the programme took place online. However, the trainer established a good relationship with our trainees. The trainer was educated in Europe, where he is living, and this led to several interesting discussions about the differences between the two cultures and particularly in the way of working in both cultures.”

The Kurdistan Region Statistics Office (KRSO) uses migration-related data to prepare progress reports on development goals and formulate related policy. Migration trends are a growing area of policy interest in Iraq following the displacement of people from areas affected by the conflict with ISIS. As recovery and reconstruction begin and Iraq prepares to undertake a new census, there is a need to make greater use of existing migration data.
