Frequently Asked Questions

You are here: Home / About CD4D2 / Frequently Asked Questions
Who can apply to CD4D2?
The applicant should have Dutch/EU citizenship or at least a permanent residence permit in the Netherlands or in another EU member state.
The applicant should have a relevant educational background and work experience for the applied position
Who will select the experts?
IOM reviews your CV and preselects candidates for the applied position.
The final selection is done jointly by IOM and the relevant host institution.
How long does an assignment last?
The duration of an assignment depends on the nature of the activities to be carried out and the availability of the candidate.
The minimum duration of an assignment is two weeks, the maximum duration is three months.
Can I still apply even though I cannot engage for the whole duration of the assignment?
Yes, the duration is flexible and can be negotiated to combine it with other engagements.
Repeated assignments are also possible to spread the work over time.
Are the assignments physical or virtual?
IOM supports both physical and virtual assignments, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently not in a position to support any physical assignments.
Depending on the developments in the coming period, physical assignments could follow on the virtual ones.
Does IOM offer support in terms of preparation?

IOM offers preparatory training to selected candidates, which takes place prior to the start of an assignment It is spread over 2 half days.
In case of a physical assignment, IOM arranges the travel of candidates to the country origin.

Does the project offer an allowance for participants?
The assignments take place on a voluntary basis, which means that participants receive compensation in the form of an allowance to compensate for costs made or time invested. It cannot be considered as a salary.
The precise time investment, and a work plan, is discussed with the candidates and the host institution, after which the exact allowance is determined.
The allowances are only to be transferred to Dutch or EU bank accounts, not on local or any other bank accounts. Allowances are only transferred to the participant’s own bank account, not on third-person accounts.
How does it work in terms of insurance?
The project includes collective travel insurance for participants that conduct physical assignments. This travel insurance is valid during the period specified in the contract that the participant signs with IOM and covers the costs in emergency situations.
The insurance does not cover the costs of regular medical treatment which is why we ask the selected candidates to keep their regular Dutch or EU medical insurance.
Are there other things to keep in mind?
For physical assignments, participants are requested to provide attestations of good conduct (in the Netherlands VOG) before starting their assignments. These can usually be requested at the participant’s municipality, and costs for this will be reimbursed.
