Baseline Assessment by the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance

You are here: Home / Newsletters / Newsletter June 2020 / Baseline Assessment by the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance

23 June, 2020

To match the assignments of our CD4D participants with the needs of the host organizations, interviews were held in Afghanistan and Somaliland in February and March. The interviews with staff members of selected host organizations were conducted by the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, part of Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Their findings will be reported in August.

A total of 32 interviews were conducted in Afghanistan and Somaliland. In both countries, some of the selected host institutions had already participated in CD4D1 and the visit by MGSoG allowed the institutions to show the achievements of the previous phase and to mention where efforts could be sustained.

With regards to expectations, host institutions in Somaliland want to focus on interventions in departments that were not targeted during CD4D1. Staff members expect knowledge transfer during CD4D2 to take place through formal training as well as through diaspora experts and staff closely working together.  In Afghanistan, the expectations from diaspora experts mainly lie in helping employees or instructors improving their daily tasks.

Due to COVID-19, the missions to Nigeria and Iraq had to be postponed and will take place virtually in July 2020. All the findings will be reported by the end of August 2020.
