All CD4D2 Activities in Afghanistan on Hold

You are here: Home / Newsletters / Newsletter november 2021 / All CD4D2 Activities in Afghanistan on Hold

29 October, 2021

Following the ongoing situation in Afghanistan, we decided to place all CD4D2 activities in Afghanistan on hold as of August 15, 2021. Despite the successes of the project in the past, we aim to put the safety of our participants first.

For the last 15 years, Afghanistan has been part of various IOM projects promoting diaspora engagement for development. Currently, Afghanistan is part of the CD4D2 project. Participants of the project expressed the importance of giving something back to their country of origin and were happy to play a role in the development of their home country.

However, following recent developments – in particular concerning the safety of project participants in the country –all CD4D2 activities in Afghanistan were put on hold as of August 15, 2021. All participants who were in the country at that time were able to safely evacuate.

Currently, the IOM office in Kabul remains open for humanitarian assistance. Although the future of CD4D2, for now, is uncertain in the country, we are happy to continue good communications with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and are grateful for their support during these challenging times. Lastly, we would like to give special thanks to our diaspora experts and their undeniable commitment and support throughout.
