Adaptation of CD4D2 to the Global Pandemic

You are here: Home / Newsletters / Newsletter June 2020 / Adaptation of CD4D2 to the Global Pandemic

23 June, 2020

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, where both travel and face-to-face interactions have been heavily restricted, it became clear that many of the planned activities within IOM´s programming will need to be re-structured and adapted to a virtual format. This is especially true for CD4D2 which is mainly built on knowledge transfer through physical assignments. While we have some experience with virtual assignments, this past period has made us reflect on how to be flexible and facilitate virtual assignments as much as possible.

IOM has come up with guidelines for the diaspora experts to support them in adapting their activities (training, seminars, workshops, etc.) to an online context, and by highlighting important steps to be considered for the successful preparation, implementation, and evaluation of virtual activities. Videos have also been prepared in which experts give tips on how to continue the work despite the current challenges.

Below a selection of a few tips:

  • Make sure your national counterparts understand that the training can only be successful if they support you in assessing participants’ needs, interests (topics), expectations and preferences so that the training can be tailored as much as possible to participants’ interests.
  • Decide on the most effective IT tool for all parties involved and share instructions for use of selected IT tool with all participants (keep it short and clear)
