The CD4D Taskforce recently met in The Hague. The event was kick-started with the introduction of a new taskforce member: Pimp My Village, which supports local projects in Africa. This is a valuable addition since this organisation uses crowdfunding as an important tool to make the projects involved come to life. CD4D would like to explore the use of crowdfunding within the project for capacity building and therefore would like to learn from the successes of Pimp My Village.
The Medical Committee Afghanistan Netherlands (MCAN) also presented their two projects: UpToDate and E-Surgery. These projects engage in short physical assignments in Afghanistan as well as distant virtual assignments to transfer medical skills and knowledge to medical students in Afghanistan.
Maastricht University presented their findings on the impact evaluation of the CD4D project, bringing to light areas in which the project could be improved.
The meeting ended with a presentation on exploring the use of social media to better engage with diaspora members and to establish linkages between diaspora members and host institutions.
