Kick-Off Campaign Connecting Diaspora for Development

You are here: Home / Newsletters / Newsletter March 2021 / Kick-Off Campaign Connecting Diaspora for Development

26 February, 2021

As a Marketing Expert, I am proud to be giving back to Somaliland, my country of birth. I am really motivated to show the impact of sharing my knowledge and expertise in city marketing,” says Nasir Ali. Nasir is one of ten ambassadors featuring in our new media campaign Connecting Diaspora for Development.

All ten ambassadors are professional experts from the diaspora living and working in the Netherlands who participate in our CD4D2 project. By appointing special ambassadors IOM aims to showcase to the general public how diaspora professionals give back to their countries of origin. They have been chosen because of their charisma, dedication and professionalism. From March onwards, the spotlight will be on one ambassador per month.

We will start with Nasir Ali. After studying Economics at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, Nasir made his career in marketing research and now applies his skills and knowledge to build up capacity in his country of origin, Somalia.

Our ambassadors will highlight the valuable contributions diaspora make to the Netherlands and to their countries of origin. By telling their stories each ambassador will show the positive contributions migrants make to society. Their views and stories will present a more balanced perception of migration and how migration can be a win-win situation for all.

Stay tuned for more!
