Being Trained by Diaspora Increases the Cooperation Among Experts

Interview with Dr. Dorcas Ibitoye, Chief Research Officer, Nigeria

You are here: Home / Nigeria / Being Trained by Diaspora Increases the Cooperation Among Experts

20 January, 2021

Host Institution: National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria
Dr. Dorcas Ibitoye, Chief Research Officer

“I have followed the CD4D2 programme for a few years, and I am happy that Nigeria is now eligible to participate. The programme means I will have the opportunity to be exposed to state-of-the-art information from experts who have hands-on experience to share. This will give us the opportunity to increase our career network, which will improve our productivity and efficiency.

“Being trained by diaspora is especially valuable for us because it will increase cooperation among experts.”

Our Institute focuses on tomato breeding and greenhouse technology. My aim is to increase staff effectiveness and efficiency in tomato breeding and protected cultivation and in the development of tomato hybrids/varieties to be introduced in our country.”

The National Horticultural Research Institute in Ibadan was established in 1975 as fruits and vegetables research and demonstration centre with the assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in conjunction with Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). The institute has two substations located in Mbato-Okigwe, Imo state in south-eastern Nigeria and at Bagauda, Kano state.
