On 5th May 2020, we were delighted to come together with our partner Diaspora organizations to discuss how best to reach out virtually to potential CD4D2 candidates during the current worldwide pandemic. Led by communication expert Georgina Kwakye, the group brainstormed together about solutions for effective outreach to their Diaspora communities, which tools to use, and the best way to target the right members of the community.
Our partners represent the Diaspora in the Netherlands from the 4 CD4D2 focus countries, HIRDA representing the Somali Diaspora, NIDO the Nigerian Diaspora, KEIHAN who are made up of Afghan Diaspora, Kurdistan in Business representing Diaspora from the Kurdistan region of Iraq as well as the country as a whole, as well as OMEK a platform for African Diaspora more generally.
It was extremely encouraging to see that everyone had already given a lot of thought to ways of overcoming the challenges that currently face us. Ideas flowed freely from all participants of the webinar, with the enthusiasm to achieve the aims of the project clear to see. Various communication and outreach channels were discussed, such as radio, local television, webinars and many more. With further guidance from Georgina, the group are committed to developing their individual outreach plans and implementing them within their Diaspora communities over the next weeks and months.
