Many interesting points were discussed Wednesday, March 21st during the CD4D’s third taskforce meeting. CD4D’s progress, challenges and lessons learnt were discussed with partners and the donor: the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
116 assignments have taken place compared to 49, when the last taskforce meeting took place. The number of participants has doubled as well as the number of host institutions. Challenges include increasing the ratio of women to men – female participation still remains low (13: 50) – and fulfilling all the vacancies, despite many efforts to match diaspora experts and the facilitation of the application process through the CD4D website.
What’s more, observations from the evaluation research by the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance have brought to attention the high motivation of participants and host institutions. Moreover some challenges were highlighted, which relate to working and living in insecure areas with poor communication. Despite these challenges, many successes have been achieved for example the water management workshop in Kabul given by Mr. Haidari.
Lastly, one of the Ethiopian diaspora experts, Dr. Mesfin Tsegaye Gebremikael was invited to give a presentation on his assignment but also more generally on the participation of Ethiopian experts in the CD4D project and their successes such as Samuel Yenesew and Betelehem Beyene’s.
