Nasir Ali is CD4D Ambassador and participant in the project. He is currently in Somaliland for an assignment at the Ministry of Interior. His goal is to make sure that small municipalities can improve the quality of their services. How? Through the so-called ‘Train-the-Trainer’ approach.
Nasir trains groups of employees working for various small municipalities in Somaliland so that they can further share his knowledge. In this way, Nasir contributes to the structural improvement of Somaliland municipal services. He says: “My training sessions are about the use of structural training possibilities for staff, why every municipality should have its own training department, what impact training sessions can have on services for citizens, et cetera. In short, the Ministry of Interior tries build the capacity of small municipalities for them to deliver better services”.
Nasir’s approach focuses on the future. His training sessions prepare current employees of the Ministry to pass on their newly gained knowledge to future generations of staff and other departments within the municipalities. The municipalities will therefore benefit from Nasir’s training sessions on the long run – a sustainable approach to knowledge exchange!
Nasir does not work alone, but coordinates his activities with Mohamed Yusuf. Mohamed assesses the content of Nasir’s training sessions and takes care of logistic arrangements for Nasir to execute his training smoothly. “The person in the picture is Mohamed Yusuf. He is responsible for the communication between IOM and the Ministry. He works at the Ministry for over five years, is very knowledgeable, and gives advice to the Minister and Director-General about all NGO-related things. A very important man within the Ministry!”
In the meantime, Nasir and Mohamed prepare their weekly presentation for one of the four municipalities they are supporting: Oodweyne. We wish them good luck on the presentation and a fruitful rest of the CD4D assignment!
