IOM The Hague hosted its first CD4D pre-departure training on July 13th 2017. Four enthusiastic participants who will soon leave to Ethiopia and Sierra Leone took part. This training was developed in coordination with Voluntary Service Overseas (VS0 NL).
The trainer, Wim Nijssen, (owner of Currents Facilitation) has an interactive teaching approach, by getting the participants to reflect upon their expectations personally, professionally and with regards to what they can achieve within the given time-frame of their assignments. The aim is for them to successfully manage their expectations and the expectations of the host institutions. Next to this a stakeholder analysis in which the importance of knowledge facilitation is highlighted in order to maximize sustainability.
These sessions are also an opportunity to connect participants with each other and allow them to share past experiences in development projects and any concerns they may have regarding their upcoming assignments.
The combination of an experienced and dynamic trainer and four very committed participants created a successful session which IOM definitely wants to repeat and to which all new CD4D participants will be encouraged to participate.
